Red Power Boxes to Help Seniors

Redding, CA – Golden Umbrella (GU) has implemented a new fundraising effort to benefit its Power to Seniors Program.  GU staff has placed “Red Power Boxes” in businesses throughout Shasta County to help raise funds for this important community program.  The Power to Seniors Program pays the utility bills of Shasta County seniors, 62 years and older, who cannot afford to do so.  In order to participate, seniors must have a shut-off notice from their utility company. 

    GU has used red collection boxes in the past but has decided to refocus their efforts with the Red Power Box Program.  From November 1, 2009 until February 28, 2010, all funds collected in the Red Power Boxes will go exclusively to the Power to Seniors Program.  

    The Golden Umbrella staff would like to thank GU’s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program volunteer Myron Kreger for building the red power boxes and the businesses currently participating in the Red Power Box Program.  Businesses that would like to participate in the program are encouraged to contact GU at (530) 223-6034.
