Shasta County's only certified Alzheimer's Day Care and Resource Center.  

Our Mission

To promote the quality of life and dignity of older Californians with Alzheimer's Disease and related dementia by identifying and addressing issues related to the dementia and providing leadership to integrate quality dementia day care services into the community-based system of care and to promote local involvement.

Our Goals

  1. Increase availability and accessibility of quality dementia day care for target populations and for under served areas.

  2. Improve availability and access to Alzheimer's day care through continued program development that promotes quality of life for participants and their families.

  3. Collaborate with, and provide technical assistance to, State departments who serve persons with dementia in any capacity.

  4. Integrate quality Alzheimer's day care programs into the statewide community-based system of care with participation of local and other state agencies through policy and program development.

  5. Support caregivers through education, training, and by providing respite.

Our Purpose

The ADCRC program was initiated to help meet the respite needs of unpaid caregivers and provide meaningful experience for persons with dementia.  It was designed to provide a service for persons who frequently are not accepted by existing service programs.

For the Caregivers We Provide:

  • respite
  • resources for education
  • resources for support groups
  • transportation for family members to attend the program
  • families with the means to keep family members in their homes longer
  • help planning for the future

For the Participants We Provide:

  • a safe warm environment for persons with moderate to late stages Alzheimer's disease and related dementias
  • hot nutritious meals
  • physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy
  • activities designed to fit their specific needs and abilities
  • health monitoring
  • maximum 1:5 ratio for more individualized attention

Eligibility

Participants will have Alzheimer's Disease or related dementia, with a majority in the moderate to severe stages of dementia.  There are no age, financial or other qualifications for eligibility to participate.

Fees

The program is covered under the Medical program.  Participants are requested to share in the cost of care through fees that are based on the cost of service, with assistance for individuals who cannot afford the entire cost of the program.

Alzheimer's Day Care is a program operated by the Golden Umbrella through a grant from the State of California Department of Aging, the Program Service Area 2 Agency of Aging, local donations and fund raising.
