Information and Assistance

Information and Assistance about senior and disabled services is available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. by calling 223-6034 in the greater Redding area, and 1-800-400-6446 in all other areas.  This program is linked to the Advocacy Program and provides individual attention to assist senior and disabled adults to locate and best utilize appropriate services in the county.

Advocacy / Outreach / Rep Pay

Golden Umbrella Advocates serve senior citizens and disabled adults of Shasta County by providing in-home supportive services, assessment, referral, Representative Payee services and assistance with problem resolution.  The Advocates work closely with other agencies and organizations to assure the safety of participants and that all needed services are provided.

Power To Seniors

“Power to Seniors” sponsored by the Shasta County Older Adult Policy Council, was created in response to the 2001 energy  crisis to aid low-income seniors with paying their energy bills.  For information and eligibility criteria, please call 223-6034

Tele-Care Program

Tele-Care is a telephone reassurance program whereby lonely or shut-in seniors receive a friendly call from a volunteer each morning.  If the senior does not answer, a back-up number is called or staff locates the person and his or her safety is assured.

Registry Program

The Registry Program is a referral service that we offer to the community for $10.00.  The Golden Umbrella's role is to give out names of potential workers.  The client and the worker make arrangements for hours needed, duties, and rate of pay.

Income Tax / Homeowners - Renters Rebate Assistance

This program assists senior, low-income and disabled persons with simple State and Federal tax forms, SSI and Medi-Cal forms, Renter's and Homeowner's Assistance.

Minor Home Repair

This program’s purpose is to support healthy physical environments for seniors and disabled adults to enable them to remain in their homes thus minimizing or eliminating the risk of hospitalization or institutionalization.

Senior Handyman

This service provides minor home repairs to senior homeowners who live in Shasta County outside of the Redding city limits. Golden Umbrella’s Senior Handyman will set up an appointment to come to your home and perform a Home Safety/Fall Prevention Inspection. All materials and parts must be paid for by the applicant but labor is free. Applicants must be at least 60 years of age and live in the home that needs repairs. There is an income requirement to qualify. Please call 223-6034 for more information.
