Golden Umbrella Celebrates 43 Years of Service with Presentation of Founders’ Award Redding, CA - Established in 2006, the Founders’ Spirit Award is given each year, acknowledging exemplary contributions to the mission of Golden Umbrella. The recipient of the Founders’ Award is an individual who has demonstrated a high degree of passion for seniors and individuals with disabilities. This individual has actively participated in the success of the organization’s values, and vision. Without seeking recognition, compensation or reward, this individual gives their time and energy where the need is greatest. Creativity and inspiration are the hallmarks of this individual. This year Golden Umbrella is pleased to present the Founders’ Spirit Award to Dean Haug.

Information and Assistance Information and Assistance about senior and disabled services is available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. by calling 223-6034 in the greater Redding area, and 1-800-400-6446 in all other areas. This program is linked to the Advocacy Program and provides individual attention to assist senior and disabled adults to locate and best utilize appropriate services in the county. Advocacy / Outreach / Rep Pay Golden Umbrella Advocates serve senior citizens and disabled adults of Shasta County by providing in-home supportive services, assessment, referral, Representative Payee services and assistance with problem resolution. The Advocates work closely with other agencies and organizations to assure the safety of participants and that all needed services are provided. Power To Seniors “Power to Seniors” sponsored by the Shasta County Older Adult Policy Council, was created in response to the 2001 energy crisis to aid low-income seniors with paying their energy bills. For information and eligibility criteria, please call 223-6034 Tele-Care Program Tele-Care is a telephone reassurance program whereby lonely or shut-in seniors receive a friendly call from a volunteer each morning. If the senior does not answer, a back-up number is called or staff locates the person and his or her safety is assured. Registry Program The Registry Program is a referral service that we offer to the community for $10.00. The Golden Umbrella's role is to give out names of potential workers. The client and the worker make arrangements for hours needed, duties, and rate of pay. Income Tax / Homeowners - Renters Rebate Assistance This program assists senior, low-income and disabled persons with simple State and Federal tax forms, SSI and Medi-Cal forms, Renter's and Homeowner's Assistance. Minor Home Repair This program’s purpose is to support healthy physical environments for seniors and disabled adults to enable them to remain in their homes thus minimizing or eliminating the risk of hospitalization or institutionalization. Senior Handyman This service provides minor home repairs to senior homeowners who live in Shasta County outside of the Redding city limits. Golden Umbrella’s Senior Handyman will set up an appointment to come to your home and perform a Home Safety/Fall Prevention Inspection. All materials and parts must be paid for by the applicant but labor is free. Applicants must be at least 60 years of age and live in the home that needs repairs.
